Red Gown by dragonariaes Red Gown by dragonariaes
An enormous dress made for prom. There is about 12 yards of heavy satin in this dress, which is around a size 4. Corseted bodice with black ties in the back and a big black satin bow.
Dress made by me.

This kinda reminds me of a dress mentioned in a fan fiction i read some time ago. I always though it looked this way, and now that I'm actually seeing something identical to it, it looks even more beautiful. <3

At this point, this dress is pretty old and if I remade it I would do a couple of things differently, now that I've learned more construction wise. Thanks!

Thanks! I'm probably going to do a green variation in the near future. I have the most beautiful lace I bought and want to do a gown like this with it. :)

When I can just sit down and work, it takes me about 3 days to make a gown. When life gets in the way, it takes 7-40 days. lol. This one took me about a week.

That's amazing! Once I tried with my sister and friends... but even though we were all very artistic girls there, after 2 weeks it was still an artistic lump of satan >.<

My best advice is to go to a garage sale or thrift store and buy a couple of things you like the design of and take it apart to see how it goes together. Once you get the puzzle idea down, you can pretty much make anything. It just takes practice.

12 YARDS? Good Lord. Gorgeous, but that has GOT to have some weight to it.
That's a gorgeous color too. Is it brighter in real life, or is the photo accurate?

The photo is pretty accurate depending on your monitor. It's kind of a deep blood red. It was pretty heavy, but with a wired hoop underneath, it didn't feel bad at all. The 12 yards includes the 4 layer thick bodice, big bows and lacings in the back. It's crepe back satin, and pretty good quality, so yeah, it was pretty heavy. lol

Green...that's my opinion. emerald is beautiful and I think more dresses should be green. :D :D :D I'm sure you'll make an awesome garment either way.

I have other pics of the sides and back, but didn't want to flood my page with them. I try to pic my favorite shot of each dress to upload. The back is corseted with black ribbon and has a big black bow too. :3

Did you make the hoop skirt yourself, or did you buy one?

I don't make the hoops unless someone wants a traditional cotton boned hoop. They're super expensive, so I use theatrical quality purchased ones.

I make gowns and clothing for a living, so I'm always willing to make dresses from sketches or drawings as orders. But I don't have enough hours in the day ( or enough money) to make gowns just for kicks. I'm glad you like my work though.

Mau Sucliffe: Isn't the dress heavy? My prom dress was blue green, It's the only color of dress I look good in. I love the color red though, I wish I looked good in red dresses TT_TT
