Tudor silk and cotton gown by dragonariaes Tudor silk and cotton gown by dragonariaes
This gown is made out of embroidered and woven silk, striped woven cotton and velvet with some polyester lacing and brass grommets.

The top is fully boned and laces on the sides and back, allowing for full adjustment for a good fit. The skirt is not attached, but has a solid waistband that sits underneath the edge of the top.
The grommets are not period accurate, but they will make the dress hold up to heavy wearing without having to do repairs on the stitched holes that would be there. For more authenticity, they can be covered up by tatting or satin stitching.

Shoulder pieces are laced and can be tied in several ways. They can be worn over the shoulder, off the shoulder, or folded in half and tied to the sleeves so there is no over shoulder piece visible at all. Sleeves are fully detachable, with inside ribbon ties for adjustment.

Chemise with an off white cotton eyelet.

I forgot to take a picture of the matching headdress.

Made for :iconmandilily1013: Hope you love it.

Yes. I did up a couple of different designs and ended up mixing and matching parts of two of them. Made the pattern, made the dress. ^^

Having actually seen this dress in real life, I was impressed with how durable it appeared to be, while retaining it's elegance.

Thanks. I fell in love with the blue silk but didn't have enough to make a full gown, so I was trying to find other fabrics to fill in the rest.

For a first big sewing project, it looks wonderful.
I think you could easily improve the fit of the gown by removing the gold rickrack on the front and creating small ribbon tabs every two inches down the front edges and actually lacing it up in the front and pulling it tighter.
I like the gold fabric you used.

First, remove the gold rickrack.
The use a lace or ribbon that has holes in it every 1-2 inches. You don't have to use every hole when lacing.
Stitch a length of the lace down over the seams on each side of the front panel, then use ribbon and run it through the holes in the lace like you are lacing up a shoe. It looks kind of like this:

Or you can open up the front seams and sew in loops of ribbon every 2 -3 inches and resew the seams closed over the ribbon tabs. Then lace up through those tabs like this one:

Either way works. The tabs are stronger, but take a lot more work to do, and more work if you need to fix one later on.

You'll have to play around with the ties to make it fit you the way you want. If you are having issues with 'breaking' at the hip to waist line, you can use two ties on each opening and lace one upwards from the bottom and one down from the top and have them tie where the 'break' point is for a comfortable fit.

And if you don't like the detailing on the front you can remove it by careful use of a seam ripper and sharp scissors. The solid blue goes across the entire bodice. The stripes in the front are topstitched on, I liked them, but if you don't you can take them off.

Other than that, I would  to have a picture of you actually wearing it for my portfolio. Clothing always looks better on people than mannequins.

-.-
I just realized I was looking at the wrong rough sketch when I made the top. I should have made the cut in the front deeper and added the lacing. That's totally my bad. :/
If you want me to change it, you can send the top back to me when you get a little bit of free time.

Yay! I was too poor to get to Chicago. I was bumming all weekend... It's pretty sad when you can't cough up money for gas for a trip across the state. :/
